WIRE โ Phalombe music star Gibo Pearson will this weekend perform in Ireland as part of Malawi's Independence celebrations. The musician famed for tracks such as 'Galu Ndine' and 'Izathera Mapenalty', is expected to share the stage with Mighty Wanderers supporter cum musician Bwede. According to Amai Malawi Ireland, Gibo and Bwede will perform at Malawi Independence Night in Dublin 22, Chillers Lounge Saturday under the banner of Starlight Production. "We celebrate Malawi's Independence with an unforgettable evening of culture, music, entertainment, delicious food and great company," reads the statement from Association of Malawians in Ireland. President of the Association of Malawians in Ireland (Amai), Henry Mkumbira Phiri has since said they were excited to have Bwede and Gibo Pearson in Ireland to celebrate Malawi's Independence. This is not the first time the association has engaged local musicians. Meanwhile, Big Yard Summer Jam led by Selekta Rokaz will this year be held at Nkopola Leisure Centre in Mangochi on August 29. Rokaz said during a press conference at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre yesterday that this year's event will be bigger with several partners including Umatha Daily, Martins Sounds, Trade Rastafari Development Goal and Entertainers Promotions joining them on board. "This is our third edition but we are holding it in Mangochi showing the growth we have made. The past two editions have been held in Blantyre," he said. The event will this year feature acts such as Black Missionaries and Anthony Mr Cool Makondetsa, "In the past years, we were using CDs but now it is live music and I am excited because this year our focus is on music and culture. Culture needs to be promoted and that is why we also have traditional dances on the bill and other games," Rokaz said. In another development, Gunde Media has organised an Independence Music Show to be held at Wakawaka Hotel in Lilongwe tomorrow. The show, which aims at giving fun lovers a chance to celebrate Independence Day, will feature artists such as Black Missionaries and Anthony Mr Cool Makondetsa, Zembani Band, Sam Smack, Crispy Malawi, Temwah, Loiso and Chizmo Njuchi.
