WIRE โ€” The tribute concert for iconic musician Soldier Lucius Banda will be held on August 22 2026 at Balaka Stadium. Lucius' son Johnny Zembani confirmed of the concert saying they will start with unveiling of the mausoleum in the morning before the launch of the foundation and concert in the afternoon at Balaka Stadium. "His legacy will live on, we miss him as a family," he said. Johnny said they would have held the memorial yesterday being the day he died but they decided to hold it in August which is also the month Lucius was born. Born on August 17 1970, Lucius, who contributed immensely to the growth of the creative sector, died on June 30 in 2024 in South Africa. With several albums to his credit including Survivor, Unity, Cell 51, Cease Fire and Down Babylon, Lucius was until his death Presidential Advisor on Youth and Arts. Veteran dancer Jane Kachepatsonga, who starred with Soldier and Zembani Band for many years, wrote on her Facebook page that "he will remain a hero". Musician Wendy Harawa, who also worked with Soldiers for years, wrote on her Facebook page saying Lucius' legacy lives on. "It is exactly two years today (Tuesday) since we lost you my Ndifre! My father, my best friend, my brother Soldier Lucius Chiccio Banda. I still carry the wisdom and guidance you gave me, Soldier. Your words shaped my path and your music still heals," Wendy said. Singer, guitarist and producer Lulu, who also performed with Lucius for many years before making a step to form his Mathumela Band, also wrote on his Facebook page that the stage feels empty without him. "They say time heals, but as the days pass, the reality sinks in deeper. For a longtime, a part of me kept waiting for you to walk through the door, to pick up the phone, or to share one more laugh, but as time moves on, the painful truth remains," the 'N'zalera' star said.
